Welcome to Syston Methodist Church

Good News – The Church is opening for worship

We’re opening for worship on Sunday 20th September at 10.30am and each Sunday thereafter. The first four weeks will be communion services. The Church will also be open every Wednesday morning at 10.00am for private prayer and meditation. Unfortunately due to Covid- 19 the services will be unavoidably different from what we are used to. We can only seat approximately 24 people in the congregation with chairs being spaced 2m apart, so you will need to pre-book your seat – to do this just call Alan Talbot on 0116 2692752. Preference on week 1 will be for those who have not been able to join the mid-week service on ‘Zoom’, so please ring Alan ASAP to reserve your place.

Please follow the following simple rules to ensure the safety of all attending the service:

  • Please DO NOT attend if you are suffering from any Covid-19 symptoms.
  • You will need to wear a face covering (unless you have a medical reason not to, or you are under 11years old)
  • Ensure you sanitise your hands as you enter the Link.
  • If you have brought money for the collection please place it in the plate/box fitted to the central pillar as you enter.
  • Seating will be allocated by the steward – please sit where you are asked
  • Do not move the chairs
  • Social distancing must be observed at all times
  • Stewards will record names and contact details for all attendees for the Track and Trace
  • There is no singing – the words of hymns will be said
  • The Link and choir vestry doors will remain open throughout the service for ventilation so if the weather is cold please dress appropriately
  • All communal words will be on the screen – large print copies available for those who need them.

For communion services

  • There will be no ‘Passing the Peace’ – this will be done verbally only
  • We shall only take bread (wafers) and not wine
  • Face coverings may be lowered during the taking of the wafer
  • There must be no physical contact between distributor and congregation
  • Silence should be observed during distribution
  • The celebrant will take wine on behalf of the congregation

At the end of the service

  • Please leave through the choir vestry and down the side passage and front steps (if you are unable to do this please speak to the steward)
  • You will be asked to leave one row at a time
  • Please avoid congregating for conversation in the building

Yes, it’s all very different but we are strictly following Government and Methodist Church guidance on the way things must be for the present time. If we all adhere to the instructions then we are ensuring the safety of the entire congregation. Pray God restrictions may relax soon!

An Inclusive Church

We believe in inclusive Church - church which does not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.

An Active Church

There is a lot happening and you are welcome to be part of anything and everything that we are.

You might be looking for Sunday Worship. If so then we are informal and enjoy sharing worship together. Our morning services at 10:30am include activities for children who are always welcome. Our evening services follow a mixture which includes more traditional Methodist worship as well as other styles including: quiet, cafe, contemporary, and healing.

We have a weekly service of Holy Communion, every Tuesday at 10am for about 40 minutes.

We have a monthly Messy Church on a Friday from 6pm to 8pm which starts with a meal. It is for whole families and all ages with lots of noisy and fun sharing food, crafts, mess, games and worship. See our Syston Messy Church page on Facebook for more details.

See our activities and events pages for loads more stuff.
